Roller Skates & Hula Hoops

If you could choose anything in the world to do for your 30th birthday what would it be?
The Bahamas? Just did that.
Dinner with a big group of friends? Scheduled for C's 30th.
Roller Derby? Yeah, that sounds like fun.

Thankfully, DC has an active girls roller derby league and they had a game on Saturday night (perfect for celebrating M's birthday with some friends). For those who don't know about roller derby, picture a gentler (but still fierce) version of professional wrestling with women on roller skates that go around an oval track and try and pass one another (check out this video to learn the rules). It's family friendly violence that teaches women about empowerment, while letting guys watch women bump and check the junk out of each other - everyone has a good time. In fact, C, who has never seen a roller derby, had a great time.

Surprising an amateur league was just as much fun as watching on TV back in the day. Here are a couple of photos for your pleasure:

They let M hula hoop during the half time show (big mistake, I'm lousy) | The guys, enjoying the action.
